MamaCollective Discussion Groups are as unique as each mother herself.

They can be a small, intimate group of close friends who meet weekly or monthly, or they can be a rotating group of local moms who may not know each other at first, but come to hold space for supporting each other and moms in their local community. However you choose to participate, joining a MamaCollective Discussion is sure to leave you feeling validated, supported, and connected to other moms in your area.

How to Gather, Discuss and Connect

Step 1

Enter your email to be added to our newsletter list and to receive our FREE, easy to follow facilitator and topic guides to host your own MamaCollective Discussion.

Step 2

Check your email, read the guides, pick your Discussion topic and gather mamas in your community!

Step 3

We believe in building community through off-line, in-person connection. We will share a new, timely topic each month via our newsletter, so, keep an eye out, grab a cup of tea, sit down and get to know other moms in your community, in person. Remember, we’re all in this motherhood journey together!

Where to Meet

MamaCollective groups can meet anywhere that provides a safe, comfortable, warm, welcoming and quiet environment to have a quality conversation. A living room, back yard, local park, beach or overlook after a hike, MamaCollective is not as much about the place, as it is about the people.

How Groups Run

Our discussions are facilitated by moms as a peer-to-peer circle. Our groups are NOT run by a therapist or a psychologist. MamaCollective does not focus on doling out parenting advice or tools or strategies (although sometimes these come up naturally in discussion), rather MamaCollective is a space to dive deep into one topic pertaining to the emotional journey of motherhood. It’s about being heard and supported, and creating a space for connection with other women in your community.

Our easy to follow toolkit, created by MamaCollective Founder, Tiere, after nearly 8 years of facilitating Discussions, allows any mom, anywhere in the world, to gather, discuss and connect.

Guidelines

We have three sacred rules in the MamaCollective:

  • What We Say Here Must Remain Here: Confidentiality. We use our own wisdom to discern which thoughts shared are best kept in the circle to remain private. By doing this, we build a community of trust.

  • Share the Air: We are mindful that everyone came to speak and share. We allow space to make sure everyone gets the chance to share and discuss. We keep a mental tab on how often we are speaking so that others have time to speak as well. By doing this, we build a community that thoughtfully hears one another.

  • Sit in the Silence: When we find ourselves in a silence, we are at peace. We know that the facilitator won’t always jump in with a comment or question, and this gives us time to mull over our thoughts. For those more introverted, it allows space to enter the conversation. It is a rare occurrence to sit and think in the presence of others. By doing this, we build a community that is comfortable together, even in silence.

It is absolutely critical that everyone who attends and hosts a MamaCollective Discussion, respects these guidelines. It is the key to creating a safe space for everyone.

Discussion Framework

MamaCollective Discussions are two hours and can take place whenever, and wherever, is convenient for your group - just as each mother is unique, so is each group.  The important thing to remember is that everyone has committed precious time to participate so sticking to the two hour structure is vital.

Each discussion starts with 15 minutes of mingling, followed by short introductions, topic explanation and journaling. Then each participant has a few, designated, minutes to share, followed by a facilitated discussion and wrap up.

Morning sessions typically run from 9:30-11:30 as follows:

  • 9:30-9:45 AM

    Coffee, light bites and mingling

  • 9:45-10:00 AM

Short introductions, topic explanation and journaling for 5 mins

  • 10:00-10:30 AM

    Share

  • 10:30-11:30 AM

Facilitated discussion & wrap up at the end.

We end promptly at 11:30, honoring that everyone has carved out precious time to participate.

Evening session example:

  • 6:45- 7:00 PM

    Wine, light bites and mingling

  • 7:00-7:15 PM

Short introductions, topic explanation and journaling for 5 minutes

  • 7:15-7:45 PM

    Share

  • 7:45-8:45 PM

Facilitated discussion & wrap up at the end.

Group Size

Our groups are small and intimate so you can focus on getting to know each other in deep and meaningful ways. We want this to be a space where you can develop quality friendships with others, not surface level relationships. We cap our deepest topics to 6 moms. Some topics are more lighthearted, and in that case, we cap at 10 moms. We suggest having a wait list in case anyone drops out last minute, and we ask that you please let your facilitator know 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel to let another mom take your spot.
